Free biomass boiler scheme
A leading Cornish energy efficiency specialist is launching a multi-million pound initiative to provide free biomass boilers to selected households in the Duchy.
Happy Energy is aiming to help households in Cornwall that are off the mains gas network and spend £1,500 a year or more on heating and hot water by offering a free biomass boiler system, installed and maintained for the next seven years.
Happy Energy CEO, Adrian Wright, explained. “Domestic biomass boilers use wood pellets as fuel, cutting heating and hot water bills by around 10%-30% from the moment they are commissioned, saving up to £450 a year for a household currently spending £1,500 on heating and hot water, as well as being much more environmentally friendly.
“The launch of the Government’s Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) which sees payments made to those installing biomass boilers, has made them a really attractive proposition for home owners but we recognise that the £12k to £15k capital investment costs for a system can stop many of the home owners that will benefit most from biomass in Cornwall from actually getting one and that is what our biomass initiative is designed to help overcome.
The launch of the free initiative will see Happy Energy design and fit the system, commission it and maintain and service it free for seven years, with the household only having to pay for the wood pellet fuel themselves.
The RHI payments go to Happy Energy to offset the cost of the supply, installation and on-going maintenance of the boiler, the household receives the benefits of reduced heating and hot water bills.
